Sansum Point by Jade Vovers.

Together with The Land Conservancy of BC you can ensure the stunning waterfront seascapes, rich ecological diversity, and future recreational opportunities on Sansum Point in the Cowichan Valley become a community treasure, forever. TLC has $595,000 left to raise by June 30, 2011 in order to save this special place.

TLC is committed to protecting the wild hills and beaches within the Jordan River, Sandcut Beach, and Sooke Hills areas for future public access. In order to save these properties for their significant environmental and recreational value, TLC needs your support.

Currently, TLC is purchasing 56 acres of mixed wood forest along the Horsefly River that is of incredible strategic value for wildlife conservation, and wild salmon conservation in particular.

The Horsefly River Expansion Project will protect a piece of private land that is between the Horsefly River Riparian Conservation Area (HRRCA) and Crown Land that was designated as a key wetland for moose, and an Old-growth Forest Management Area. When completed, this project will both increase the conservation value of the HRRCA and eliminate the possibility of future development. Please make your donation today!

TLC and its partners need to raise $350,000 to secure the first three acquisitions of the Clearwater Wetlands and Wildlife Corridor. With the generous donations by lichenologist and naturalist, Trevor Goward and his neighbours, John and Edwina Kurtas, the total area protected will exceed 114 acres.

This corridor will benefit large mammals – moose, wolf, deer, cougar, black bear, and grizzly bear – that must currently travel across the Clearwater River Valley during the spring and fall through unprotected private lands.

Brooks (Gowlland) Point Regional Park

Brooks Point Regional Park is located on the south-eastern tip of South Pender Island in the southern Gulf Islands. This relatively undeveloped oceanfront park is a mix of rocky coastal bluffs and grassy meadows, with a number of Douglas-fir trees scattered throughout. The offshore waters are abundant with marine life, and in the spring, the meadows are covered with wildflowers, including chocolate lilies. In partnership with the local community, TLC is launching a campaign to support full park protection at Brooks Point. TLC seeks to raise $700,000 by August 31, 2011.
