Farm Holidays Program

Foxglove Farm Conservation Holiday

Foxglove Farm Conservation Holiday

Do something different and get your hands dirty on your holiday! Join The Land Conservancy on working farms and ranches around B.C. for hands-on learning about local sustainable food production and land stewardship.

Working with other holiday participants, TLC leaders, farmers, and ranchers you will spend several days learning how your food is grown. Based on the season, activities can include harvesting and preparing produce for sale, crop maintenance (e.g. pruning, irrigation, weeding), seeding new crops, or unique building projects such as constructing an earth oven. Depending on the farm, there is opportunity to learn about organic growing and pest control methods or biodynamic farming methods. In addition to ‘field time’ holidays include talks by local farmers or other experts on sustainable food production.

Food of course is a focus on these holidays. TLC staff and holiday participants come together to prepare healthy, satisfying meals based on menus and ingredients supplied by TLC and local farmers. For example, your day could start with rolled oat pancakes with fruit and yogurt. Lunch may be open-faced deluxe grilled cheese sandwiches and supper a satisfying Moroccan tagine. There is plenty of time scheduled into holidays for participants to enjoy the local scenery and culture.

Some of our past Farm Holiday sites include Foxglove Farm, Keating Farm Estate, Duck Creek Farm, and Madrona Farm.  For more information, see our Conservation Holidays page or to read about our past Farm Holidays, see Previous Conservation Holidays.
