More Information:
Shincliffe Farm is a picturesque 70 acres of managed grasslands and forest bisected by Shawnigan creek. The dairy herd is rotated through the many grazing pastures according to plant growth and recovery. Deer have also discovered the rich grass and legume mix at the farm and sometimes graze alongside the cows. Fifteen acres of selectively-harvested forest towers above the acres of lush pasture and is felt to be an important resource for balancing water tables, especially during summer droughts. Shawnigan creek is bordered by large trees and lush vegetation, perfect habitat for the trout and coho fry living there. Shincliffe Farm has been in the family since Joan’s grandparents began homesteading on the property in 1917. The original barn, built in 1923, is still in use today.
