More Information:

Kenn and Sandra Oldfield have welcomed a multifaceted stewardship approach to their vineyard management. In consultation with local biologists, they have restored a disturbed section of their property to native plant species. In 2003, they planted over 600 native shrubs, wildflowers and bunchgrasses to return the area to an antelope-brush plant community, a globally imperiled habitat that is rapidly disappearing.

Tinhorn Creek also agreed to be a part of a snake barrier fencing pilot project delivered by the South Okanagan Similkameen Stewardship program with funding from the BC Agricultural Council. Industrial agricultural settings are often sites of high snake mortality, and the snake fence will guide snakes towards adjacent natural areas where they will be less at risk.

In the Spring of 2010, the winery decided to build a restaurant on the property. Prior to developing the land, Kenn and Sandra contacted The Land Conservancy to assess the site for sensitive natural areas. After the sensitive areas were identified and some native plants were relocated, the winery moved forward with restaurant construction ensuring these important natural areas remained undisturbed. This early consultation process was critical in ensuring that the development of the winery would occur in an environmentally responsible manner.
