More Information:
David and Allison care for their property on lower Park Rill Creek with a love for the land, and a deep appreciation of the time they spend on it. They know that the creek and its fringe of trees and shrubs (riparian area) are good for their farm, and vital to the health of the region as a whole. They are encouraging neighbours to protect the creek and are active members of “Friends of Park Rill”.

They voluntarily placed a conservation covenant on their riparian area, and an adjacent wetland, so that the natural environment is protected forever. David and Allison began their stewardship work on the property by reducing the amount of mowing near the creek. This action alone resulted in a significant and rapid increase of trees and shrubs within the waterbirch-dogwood plant community. To assist the recovery of the habitat, 670 native shrubs and trees were planted, with assistance from the South Okanagan Similkameen Stewardship program. With a successful project well in the works, David and Allison generously offered to host a riparian workshop on their property so that other landowners could learn and be inspired to follow suit. Bat houses and nest boxes for owls, swallows and wood ducks have also been installed to create additional wildlife habitat.

The couple operates a successful organic orchard, as well as a Bed and Breakfast. Through the sharing of good food and good cheer with their WWOOF-ers (Willing Workers on Organic Farms) and guests in this beautiful environment, they continue to educate visitors and friends about the joy that can be found through combining farming with conservation and stewardship.
