More Information:
This orchard was originally planted in 1974 and 1975 and now has 18 different apple varieties, 9-10 of which are currently used in cider production. The cider apple varieties have been proven for centuries in England, France and Germany. The owners, Rick and Janet have protected a stand of Douglas fir forest on the property, a stream, wildlife pond and a constructed pond that will add to the diversity on the farm. Rick and Janet encourage visitors to explore the orchard and the self-guided walk complete with interpretive information about the native plants, local ecology, the pollinating bee’s and orchard. Merridale has a restaurant and gift shop, which are further conduits to the public for education about their conservation ethic and the importance of supporting local agriculture. The farm also has a brick oven where they bake bread regularly and gourmet pizza on Sunday evenings throughout the summer.
