Our Partners – Vancouver Island/Coast Region

Vancouver Island/Coast Region Conservation Partners:

These farmers produce a variety of vegetables, fruits, livestock, and value-added products in a region where Mediterranean-like summers and mild winters allow growing year-round.  At the same time, these farmers are protecting critical habitats and endangered ecosystems on their lands, such as salmon and trout-bearing streams, wetlands, riparian areas, forest and Garry Oak meadows (one of four most endangered ecosystems in Canada).

The beauty of the region also attracts thousands of tourists to an already thriving agri-tourism industry.  There is growing interest in the Slow Food Movement and everything culinary.  As well, public attention is increasingly being drawn to issues of local food security, ‘buy local’ campaigns, and benefits of small-scale farming.
