Our Partners – Lower Mainland Region

B.C.’s most intensively practiced agriculture occurs in the Fraser Valley where immense pressure exists to remove agricultural land from production in favour of urban and industrial development.  Much attention is focused on protecting the remaining Agricultural Land Reserve.  The world-scale Fraser River Basin, source of the most productive agricultural land in BC, is a major focus for conservation and sustainability.

There are farmers in the region who are able to continue farming AND protect biodiversity and natural ecosystems on their land.  Wetlands, streams, riparian areas, forestland corridors, hedgerows and thickets are all crucial habitat for wildlife in a region under siege from urbanization.

The southern West Coast population is generally considered progressive, oriented toward gourmet eating, good restaurants, and support for locally produced foods.
