First Stop: Fort Shepherd for Skeena

When I was trying to decide where to go for the first real stop on my journey to reconnect with my grizzly bear heritage, TLC staff at Eagles Estate Heritage Garden suggested I go hang out with our friend, Star, the cougar, who lives out in the Kootenays. Seemed like a fine idea to me so I packed my bags and hitched a ride with one of TLC’s staff which was heading up that way for a vacation. You didn’t expect me to walk there, did you? I may be reconnecting, but I am still a city bear. Anyhow, I got dropped off at Fort Shepherd. It’s just south of Trail. I hiked a few trails (yes, the pun is intended) and you would never know that this used to be a Hudson’s Bay outpost if it wasn’t for a cairn marking the spot. I should come back in the summer to go explore the area and enjoy a picnic without snow! Star had left a note that she was out at Syringa Creek grocery shopping, so that’s where I’m going to go next but not before checking out all the deer tracks! I’m starting to get a little hungry myself…
