The Land Conservancy, B.C.’s leading charitable land trust, has launched a new website designed to be more interactive and responsive to the needs of its members and other individuals interested in the protection of natural areas, historic sites and agricultural lands.
As a hub of conversation as well as conservation, the website is an integral component of TLC’s “Million Reasons” membership drive to encourage British Columbians to join as a member and contribute to protecting special places.
TLC’s latest successes and activities are featured prominently on the homepage, and members and the public are able to post their views on the content. They are also able to share TLC news and events with their friends and family showing their reasons for supporting TLC.
Other interactive components will include a survey for the membership to help TLC gauge how it’s doing from the grassroots level. Plans for online contests using popular social networking tools such as Flickr and YouTube are in the works, too.
“Social media and social networks are here to stay, and TLC wants to grow with these communities. Tools like Facebook, YouTube, Flickr are just the next frontier of grassroots community involvement,” says Heather Skydt, TLC’s Manager of Communications. “TLC has always been a member driven organization, and is stronger for it. These online communities are the next place we want to share the TLC story because that’s where our next generation of conservationists will sprout.”
